All of the tanneries listed on this page have something in common; a commitment to craft and a promise to provide the highest quality materials possible for a final product that will last for generations to come. Many of these tanneries are family operations, employing hundreds of hard working people that combine modern methods and traditional craftsmanship to create beautiful leathers. This is a selection of my preferred tanneries, I order in small quantities from a few others as well.

Acadia Leather is a Maine based tannery specializing in leather for the craft and shoemaking industries. Their leathers combine old-school techniques with modern technology, and constant feedback from makers using their material allow for Acadia to adjust their leathers and finishes for a fantastic product, each and every time.
S.B. Foot, Red Wing MN
S.B. Foot: Located in Red Wing, Minnesota, S.B. Foot is a premium tannery dedicated to creating some of the toughest leathers you can buy. As the primary leather source for the Red Wing Shoes company, you can expect that leathers from this tannery are guaranteed to take a beating and keep coming back for more. Thick, heavily oiled and dense leathers create some of the most rugged pieces that one can buy, whether it's a pair of boots from Red Wing or a bag from Greylock.
Siegel- Winston-Salem, NC
Steven Siegel is the premier source of top quality goatskins in the United States. These are some of the highest quality book-binding and small goods leathers made in the world. Steven uses reference materials from the past 600+ years combined with modern tanning knowledge and meticulous attention to detail to produce the worlds best archival goatskins. All Seigel goatskins are 100% vegetable tanned in the US and Europe using carefully sourced and researched goatskins.
Law Tanning, Milwaukee WI
Law Tanning: Milwaukee based Law Tanning is a family operated tannery with almost 100 years of history in the American tanning business. Primarily a source of vegetable tanned leathers, Law uses interesting hide sources such as American Bison to create some of the most beautiful, hard wearing leathers in the country. With daily use and a minimal amount of upkeep, you can expect your pieces made with Law Tanning to grow more beautiful with each use.
Wickett and Craig, Curwensville PA
Based in Curwensville PA and operating since 1867, Wickett and Craig is one of the only specialty veg-tan leather tanneries in the United States. Producing these vegetable tanned leathers takes more time and labor than modern methods of tanning, but the results really speak for themselves. Glowing finish and incredibly hardwearing leather will only deepen in patina and character with time. Most leathers produced by this tannery are intended for use on saddlery, tack and harnesses. Your bag or wallet is going to last longer than you when it's made with this material.

An Italian tannery with 40 years of history in producing the worlds best Veg-tan calfskin available. Starting with the best available raw-stock calfskins, Walpier approaches each article with a true artisan touch, resulting in a piece of leather with a beautiful, glowing finish. Not only are they beautiful, these leathers are incredibly tough. One can expect their Walpier leather piece to last for decades with minimal care, and each use will only add to the patina you expect from a top-quality leather.
